BaseN’s Technology powers energy savings in another round of Vattenfall’s Energy Family of the Year Competition

::: news :::

Due to the very successful first three Energy Family of the Year (energiaperhe) competitions, Vattenfall decided to run another round starting in December 2013. The competition lasts for 12 months. Three well-known families are participating:

– Singer Marita Taavitsainen in Nurmijärvi

– Actor-writer-producer Olga Temonen in Sääksjärvi

– Actor-director-screenwriter Kai Lehtinen in Karjalohja

The saving target for this competition is a 10% reduction in energy consumption, enabled by BaseN’s real-time consumption measurements, displayed in an easy to understand format via online portals, and energy saving tips provided by Vattenfall. The overall goal is making significant energy savings possible without dramatic changes in the families’ daily lives.

In the previous competitions, the families easily exceeded the set saving target and achieved savings of typically more than 20%. The first competition in 2010 generated a combined saving total of 5.000 kWh, the 2011 competition of 20.000 kWh and the 2012 competition of even 33.000 kWh.

The homes’ electricity distribution boards report on energy consumption to BaseN’s system, with up to minute and watt-hour accuracy. This information is displayed to competitors and to the public on the competition’s website.

More information on BaseN’s role in the competition is available here.
