BaseN enables digitalization in sports

With today’s massive data lakes, BaseN Platform brings clarity with its powerful analytics. To provide a glimpse into the tremendous possibilities that lie in the area of smart connected sports, BaseN powers this year’s Indoor Finnish Rowing Championship.

The Championship will take place virtually on March 20 and March 21, for distances of  500 and 10,000 meters.

“Even more traditional sports are changing into a more digital direction. This has also happened to indoor rowing”, says Jukka Paananen, SVP Sales at BaseN.

“BaseN enables the digital leap of sport equipment manufacturers as well as sport events and competitions to keep things running in these exceptional circumstances” describes Hannu Hämäläinen, Executive Director of the Canoeing and Rowing Federation.

The virtual competitions use the Time Team system. This has also been used in indoor World Championships and in two Finnish Championships in the past. In the system, the team always sees its own situation in relation to other competitors in real-time and the average speed of the competitors.

“At BaseN, we feel it is important to use modern technology also in sports. We also offer the opportunity to compete virtually and remotely”, explains Paananen.

“Virtual competitions allow you to enter from almost anywhere with the right equipment. We are waiting for participants from all over Finland. They are rowing either with their own equipment or, for example, with the club’s equipment”, Hämäläinen continues about the possibilities of the virtual competition.

BaseN offers new ways to store, process, analyze, visualize, and manage extreme amounts of data in real time. This will enable the next generation of digital businesses to significantly improve what they do.
