This week I’ve been commuting with a Think electric car. It promises a range of 160 kilometers, but given studded winter tyres and cold weather it seems that 100 kilometers is a safer bet. The Li-Ion battery is surprisingly reactive to outside temperature, and regenerative brakes seem to loose their charging power almost immediately after leaving a warm garage.

But, being able to drive 100 kilometers with less than 3 EUR is nice. My next car will definitively be all-electric – given they won’t be taxed away from the market.

Another thing is that Grid operators need some serious planning when these sustained 4-8 kW loads are hitting the garages and parking lots in big numbers. 4kW is equivalent, anyway, to a mid-sized sauna stove.
