The board of IEEE Finland Section will have its annual meeting on Tuesday January 29th in Helsinki and invited BaseN President and CEO to present how spimes will shape the future.

Mr. Pasi Hurri is an IEEE Senior Member and holds the Vice Chair position of the IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of Control System Society, Robotics and Automation Society and System, Man and Cybernetics Society (CSS/RAS/SMCS).

In his presentation he will illuminate how spimes are the new digital fabric of reality and the core objects of the Internet of Things (IoT) as the real value of IoT is not to connect everything but to securely host complex algorithms which anaylse and control all things. Spimes will enable the transformation from physical products to intelligent services in any industry.

BaseN President & CEO Pasi Hurri takes the spime approach to a “Mastermind Class About the Future” taking place on April 25 at Singularity University on the NASA campus, run by the master of Singularity, Mr. Ray Kurzweil.

Singularity University is known for preparing global leaders and organizations for the future, exploring the opportunities and implications of exponential technologies and to connect to a global ecosystem that is shaping the future and solving the world’s most urgent problems.

With BaseN’s position as a global Internet of Things forerunner, currently holding five patents for its Platform and spime architecture, foresight and predictions of a technology-run future, are of significant importance. Kurzweil’s ideas about the intelligence explosion – the process of machines (artificial intelligence based agents) entering self-improvement cycles with each new and more intelligent generation appearing more rapidly – are of relevance when steering the future with spime.

Participating this Masterclass demonstrates BaseN’s stance in aligning futuristic ideas with science and real world technology developments.

BaseN CEO Pasi Hurri and SVP Sales Jukka Paananen are joingin the Smart Energy Åland ICT solutions workshop held on 7.5.2019 in Mariehamm.

The workshop is hosted by Flexens, which was founded to implement the full society scale demo of a 100% renewable energy system. Mr Hurri will present BaseN Platform, demonstrating how it can serve as a scalable aggregator for an island energy system with real-time, high-availability control and management for grids. Further, he will lead the round table discussion on “Deliverables of the Åland Energy Solution (Concept – Technical – Commercial)”.

“BaseN considers this initiative as a major driver for bringing Finnish energy branch experience to the global market place as combined solutions”, says Jukka Paananen, SVP Sales, BaseN. “BaseN as an aggregator in the energy arena can contribute with its thorough IoT and Industrial Internet knowledge significantly. This opportunity brings the unique knowledge from the Nordic market place together and it creates unique prosperous business opportunities for the future.”

Mr. Johan Helsingius, Chairman of the Board of BaseN, will open the Finnish Internet Forum Seminar on June 6th at Helsinki’s pikkuparlamentti. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual seminar.

The Finnish Internet Forum is a national multi-stakeholder process which discusses Internet-related issues. Its organizers hold an annual meeting and some smaller events throughout the year.

This year’s seminar will cover speeches such as “The role and regulation of internet in the EU” by Harri Pursiainen, Ministry of Transport and Communications and “The future of internet from the Commission’s perspective and the impact of new EU regulation” by TBA European Comission. Further, a panel discussion will be held to confer on the EU’s digital single market in the era of AI.

The seminar will be concluded by Mr. Helsingius and Mr. Yrjö Länsipuro giving and overview of the past 10 years and the near future: FIF and Internet.

BaseN is happy to announce it’s 5th annual IoT conference SPIME2019. After hosting the conference in various countries, SPIME2019 will return to Finland. The event will be held in Tampere, the heart of Finland, and will span out over two days – December 11 and 12, 2019.

The conference will take place at the Finnish Labour Museum, Werstas, which specialises in social history as well as researching and exhibiting the history of work and workers. The venue ties in perfectly with SPIME2019’s focus on the future of work and the future of business as it showcases the developments from the past.

The event will consist of different workshops in the morning and expert presentations in the afternoon. If you want to learn more on how BaseN has become the IoT platform of choice, be sure to secure your place.

BaseN taking the Emerging Technology Reliability Roundtable 2019 to Finland

The Emerging Technology Reliability Roundtable 2019 (ETR-RT19) is an annual event held by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Technical Committee on Communications Quality & Reliability (CQR). This year the IEEE ETR-RT19 will take place at Hotel Majvik, near Helsinki, Finland and will span out over two days from August 26-27.

As a gold sponsor and an active believer of a scientific approach, BaseN is happy to bring the industry and academic experts together at this year’s ETR-RT19 to discuss the scope of the ETR-RT19 consisting of the following key areas:

  • Discuss and identify the RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability*) challenges, requirements and methodologies in the emerging technology areas like the Cloud Computing, Wireless/Mobility (with focus on 5G technologies), NFV (Network Functions Virtualization), SDN (Software Defined Networking), or similar large-scale distributed and virtualization systems.
  • Discuss the RAS requirements and technologies for mission-critical industries (e.g., airborne systems, railway communication systems, the banking and financial communication systems, etc.), with the goal to promote the interindustry sharing of related ideas and experiences.
  • Identify potential directions for resolving identified issues and propose possible solution

BaseN CEO Pasi Hurri will deliver a keynote on Spime Containers – the internetworked Digital Twins. Mr. Hurri is not only an active contributor and supporter of the ETR-RT19, but also holds the position of an IEEE Senior Member and is the Vice Chair of the IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of Control System Society, Robotics and Automation Society and System, Man and Cybernetics Society (CSS/RAS/SMCS).

The IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of CSS/RAS/SMCS invites its members each year to join a company visit to discuss with like-minded fellows about current industry trends and new developments in business and academia.

BaseN and Kalmar Global are hosting this year’s company visit on September 3 at Kalmar’s Tampere test site. Lively discussions, presentations and demonstrations in the field of automation, digitalization and artificial intelligence in ports and terminals await the participants.

BaseN President and CEO Pasi Hurri serves as Vice Chair of the IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of CSS/RAS/SMCS.

The annual Future of Robotics in Finland seminar will take place on Friday, November 22 at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki. The seminar is organized by BaseN and the IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of Control System Society Robotics and Automation Society and System, Man and Cybernetics Society and will address Economical and Ethical innovation and AI in robotics.

The full-day seminar will have keynote presentations, pitch talks and demonstrations from companies and researchers, as well as a panel discussion. BaseN CEO Pasi Hurri, a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers as well as Vice Chair of IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of CSS/RAS/SMCS, will serve as the panel moderator.

The event serves to bring together the Finnish community of researchers, professionals and students around robotics and its related fields.
