01.02.2007 - BaseN CEO meets with Finnish Minister of Trade and Industry

Helsinki, February 1st 2007

Mr. Pasi Hurri, President and CEO of BaseN, and Mr. Jukka Veteläsuo, SVP, were invited to meet the Finnish Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Mauri Pekkarinen.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has among others work groups dedicated to planning the Finnish energy sustenance strategy. Pasi Hurri presented to Minister Mauri Pekkarinen possibilities to leverage next generation technology for accurately measuring energy consumption and making these measurements available to the individual consumer. Widely available, accurate real-time energy measurement data can be effectively used for energy saving and increasing energy efficiency.

AMR, automated meter reading, has so far been adopted only for small scale testing purposes. Pasi Hurri demonstrated a consumer oriented AMR solution that would greatly increase energy consumption awareness and allow electricity providers to see detailed consumption profiles and enable load balancing. The BaseN solution could be implemented faster than existing present solutions. Hurri estimates that a large scale AMR implementation would result in 20% or more energy savings.

Minister Pekkarinen was very pleased with Mr. Hurri’s presentation, as the concepts he presented corroborated the findings of the ministry’s work groups.
