Background

KCI Konecranes employs 4400 people and has a presence through its own personnel, agents and other representatives and in more than 40 countries with service branch offices at more than 270 locations worldwide. KCI products and services feature advanced technology, emphasise safety and costs savings for the user through best reliability and performance.|

The case
KCI encountered connectivity problems over their corporate network connections between Finland and UK. These unexpected and random connectivity problems had significant impact on network reliability and end-user satisfaction in daily operations. KCI was seeking a flexible partner that could help them to troubleshoot their network and pinpoint reasons to this technically demanding connectivity problem. BaseN Ltd was introduced to this case with the versatile BaseN Platform infrastructure management platform. BaseN Platform provides unparalleled network insight to business customers. Using independent SLAs, it views, measures, and presents data on all traffic streams and the relationships of network elements, so that any fault can be identified in near real-time and proper remedial actions taken. The BaseN Platform platform and support package can be used either by individual enterprise businesses or by the network providers themselves.

BaseN's solution
KCI provided BaseN direct access to the network devices. KCI had already performed an preliminary analysis so the problem was isolated to network connections between KCI sites in UK and Finland. BaseN deployed BaseN Platform surveillance agent on the KCI internal network. BaseN engineer analysed network connectivity issues using BaseN Platform-tools. The problem source was revealed and network reconfigured in order to eliminate the connectivity problems and to re-establish good performance and high availability to these crucial connections.

Benefits
Based on the measurements done by the BaseN technical consultant and the BaseN Platform toolset the traffic patterns and general network health were quickly determined based on actual data. The initial problem was cleared and KCI decided to use BaseN Platform and BaseN expertise to survey other network sites and overall network quality issues as well. KCI awaits significant cost savings after all network components are passed BaseN Platform quality analyses and especially when new methodologies for network provisioning presented by BaseN are in full use in the KCI international network.
